The Detroit Lions wasted no time signing recently released Cincinnati Bengals running back Rudi Johnson.

“He’s impressive. He’s a big, thick guy. He really seemed to have great feet and all those things from the workout,” Lions head coach Rod Marinelli said. “But I’ve played against him over the years, so I know he’s a very physical back.”

When the Bengals cut Rudi, the Lions basically hit the jackpot. Now they have a proven veteran who can take the bulk of the carries and rookie Kevin Smith can keep his legs and take notes from a seasoned veteren.

MMAJunkie.com broke the news this holiday weekend that Randy Couture may be returning to the UFC, possibly as soon as November. Couture hasn’t fought since August 2007, when he beat Gabriel Gonzaga via a third round TKO.

According to reports, Couture and the UFC will toss out his old contract and set up a new three fight deal, no doubt with a significant raise over his last contract as well as other perks and benefits.
