Top seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia has pulled out of an Olympic tennis tournament due to an injury to her right thumb.

“This is one of the hardest moments of my career and one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to take,” Ivanovic said. “I was so looking forward to playing here and being part of this occasion.”

“I’ve tried everything to recover and I’ve had more treatments in 10 days than I’ve had in my life.”

Maria Sharapova and Lindsay Davenport have also withdrawn from he tournament for various reasons.
