Buccaneers sign Byron Leftwich

Tampa Bay Buccaneers might have found their new starting quarterback when they signed free agent Byron Leftwich to a two-year contract on Sunday.
Leftwich was selected in the first round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2003 NFL draft but due to injury problems and his lack of mobility the Jaguars eventually released him in favor of David Garrard. After just a short stay with the Falcons, he has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he’s played exceptionally well when Ben Roethlisberger has been out with injuries.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder will compete with the current Tampa Bay quarterbacks which currently include Luke McCown, Josh Johnson, and Brian Griese.
Before the Leftwich signing McCown was believed to be the Bucs starter for the upcoming season but Leftwich will have every opportunity to steal the starting position from McCown.
Leftwich is a much better quarterback and leader than McCown but his mobility remains a concern. If the Bucs feel like they can protect Leftwich and give him enough time to get rid of the ball he should be their starter come September.
