Cardinals Name Kurt Warner Starting QB Over Matt Leinart
The Arizona Cardinals are expected to name veteran Kurt Warner their starting quarterback over former first round draft pick Matt Leinart.
Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt was obviously disappointed in Leinart’s poor play in their preseason game against the Oakland Raiders.
“I know Matt’s down because he didn’t play as well as he would have liked,” Whisenhunt said after the game. “This competition, being pushed by Kurt, has made Matt tougher. It’s one of the things you have to be as a quarterback.”
Against the Raiders, Leinart threw 3 interceptions and completed just 4 of 12 passes.
Since the day he became the Cardinals head coach Whisenhunt has always seemed to favor Warner over Leinart. The entire Cardinals offense runs much smoother with Warner behind center.
