In his 11th year with the basketball team, Mark Gottfried has resigned as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

“It has been a wonderful decade for me and my family, and I love the University of Alabama, but I feel that it is in the best interests of everyone involved,” Gottfried said in a statement released by the university.

The School announced assistant coach Philip Pearson will take over as interim head coach for the rest of the season.

Athletic director Mal Moore added they will try to find a permanent replacement ASAP.

“Out of respect for our players and coaches, I will not comment on the progress of our search until it has concluded,” Moore said.

After a huge upset weekend in college football the Oklahoma Sooners sit atop this weeks AP poll and Alabama moved up to #2 after their shocking upset over Georgia.

“I think we talked [Friday] that anyone can beat anyone on any given Saturday, and that’s why you’ve got to come out and you’ve got to play on edge, full tilt every game because if not, someone’s liable to come in and beat you,” Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford said after the Sooners destroyed TCU 35-10 on Saturday.
