The Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched the NL West and they’ve stopped their 5-game losing streak by shutting out the Colorado Rockies, 5-0 on Saturday night.

“We were some of those people who didn’t think it came soon enough,” Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. “We were on the brink last Sunday against Pittsburgh.”

The Dodgers had a five-run seventh made possible by a RBI singles from Ronnie Belliard and a RBI double by Mark Loretta. 21-year-old lefty Clayton Kershaw also deserves a lot of credit for the win after he threw for six scoreless innings.

The mother of recently suspended Chicago Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley is trying to repair her son’s image by telling the Chicago Sun-Times that he would love to play for the Cubs again.

“Milton eats, sleeps and drinks baseball. He loves it. That’s all he wants to do,” Bradley’s mom Charlena Rector told the newspaper.

Rector added that Milton is just mad at the world right now because his son’s school is full of racism.

“When racism hit his 3-year-old baby in school, he couldn’t take that,” Rector added. “Parents, teachers and their kids called him the n-word. He didn’t even know it was a bad word until his mom told him.”

Nice try Mom, but we’re not buying it. Your son is a screw up.

The Chicago Cubs have announced their decision to suspend outfielder Milton Bradley for the rest of the season after he made some negative comments about the team.

“You understand why they haven’t won in 100 years here,” Bradley told the Arlington Heights Daily Herald regarding his short time spent in Chicago. “It’s just not a positive environment. I need a stable, healthy, enjoyable environment. … It’s just negativity.”

On Sunday, the Cubs released the following statement.

“Recently it’s become intolerable to hear Milton talk about our great fans the way he has,” general manger Jim Hendry said. “We pride ourselves on having the greatest fans in baseball, so at this time we felt it was best for him to go home for the rest of the season.”

Good move Cubbies! If he doesn’t want to be there just send him home and make him watch the rest of the season from his couch.

New York Mets infielder David Wright shows off his new oversized Rawlings S100 head gear during a 8-3 loss to the Rockies. Wright swears he wasn’t trying to show off. He just wanted to protect himself from getting a concussion.

“There just need to be a few adjustments,” Wright said. “Obviously, I really don’t care what I look like. If it provides a little more safety, I’m all for that. I just need to get it to fit a little better. I don’t know. Maybe I’ve got an odd-shaped head.”

After the game, Wright did admit that the head gear may be a tad too big.

“It’s all in good fun,” he said. “Those guys were laughing at me on the other side. Our guys were laughing at me. …They were on me all night. All the guys in the field were yelling at me. Everything is back to normal, I guess.”

Lawyers with knowledge of the 2003 testing for performance-enhancing substances have told The New York Times that Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were among the 104 players who tested positive.

“Today I was informed by a reporter that I was on the 2003 list of MLB players to test positive for performance-enhancing substances. This happened right before our game, and the news blindsided me,” Ortiz said in a statement.

“I want to talk about this situation and I will as soon as I have more answers. In the meantime I want to let you know how I am approaching this situation. One, I have already contacted the Players Association to confirm if this report is true. I have just been told that the report is true. Based on the way I have lived my life, I am surprised to learn I tested positive.

“Two, I will find out what I tested positive for. And, three, based on whatever I learn, I will share this information with my club and the public. You know me — I will not hide and I will not make excuses.”

At this point it’s safe to assume every major league player with over 10 homeruns is a steroid user. It’s only matter of time before Albert Pujols and Ken Griffey Jr. are also revealed as steroid users.
