New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had nothing but high praise for Michael Vick when he was asked about the Patriots interest in signing the dog killer.

“Michael is an outstanding player, hasn’t played in a couple of years,” Belichick said. “But right now, our focus is on our team and our players and trying to get the New England Patriots ready and so that’s really where my attention’s been. But he’s a tremendous athlete. Where exactly he is right now, I don’t know.”

We would be surprised if the Patriots sign Vick, but it does make some sense. The Patriots could use him to create a lot of confusion for opposing defenses by throwing in a wildcat formation every now and then.

One things for sure, it would be a lot of fun to watch.

Receiver Jabar Gaffney has played under Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick in New England. When Josh McDaniels became the head coach of the Broncos he brought Gaffney with him to Denver. When asked for his thoughts on the Jay Cutler situation, Gaffney said McDaniels is handling the situation just like Belichick would.

“Just how he handles business, the way he goes about treating everybody the same. Not showing favoritism to any one player who is supposed to be I guess a ’star,’” Gaffney said. “They don’t care. They want a team. A team to go out there and win. Because the individuals won’t win.”

If McDaniels tries to be Bill Belichick then it’s only a matter of time before he gets fired. Eric Mangini and Romeo Crennel all tried to become Belichick clones when they got their first head coaching jobs and they were all ultimately fired.

There is only one Bill Belichick.
