Doc Rivers gave the Boston Celtics’ fans a reason to cheer on Wednesday when he decided he will return for at least another season at the teams head coach.
“A lot of soul-searching with the family,” Rivers said. ‘You’ve got to.’ I just think she wanted me out of the house more than anything.
“My kids all said, ‘You’re a coach. That’s what you are. And you’re a parent, and we appreciate both.’ And so that made it easier.”
The Celtics are so old and washed up that I highly doubt they can compete for another title, but now that Rivers has decided to return their chances have increased greatly. He is undoubtedly one of the best coaches in the league.
Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers is currently trying to figure out if he wants to continue to coach or if he wants to take a few years off to spend some time with his family. Here’s what he had to say regarding the situation recently.
“I’m not going to say which way I’m leaning, and I am one way, but I can look you in the eye and tell you I have not made a decision,” Rivers said. “We’ve only had one small conversation and we’re going to do that in the next week or so.”
“The only reason you stay is the love for the guys you coach, and the organization — [Celtics president of basketball operations] Danny [Ainge], and all those guys you work for. You know if you do leave, you’re not going to get that back. You can get a coaching job back, no doubt about that, but I don’t think you can ever get the situation that I have here in Boston. So that will be difficult to leave, but the other side of it is so strong as well with family. It’s going to be an interesting decision, and I don’t know what is yet.”
The Celtics are an old team and have likely made it to the NBA Finals for the last time in a long time. They have some serious rebuilding to do which will take multiple years. It will be very understandable if Rivers wants to take a few years off from coaching and come back to the game when he feels refreshed.

After the Boston Celtics lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers 74-69 on Friday night Celtics coach Doc Rivers blamed the defeat on the refs.
“I thought the charge call on Paul . . . well, you guys can take it from there,” said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. “I mean, that’s a huge call . . . to make, but listen, we played hard. I’m just going to stop there.”
Stop whining, your team got beat fair and square. Instead of wasting time bitching about the refs start working on a better plan for game 7.
