First Lehmann now Ballack. Lehmann basically claimed just yesterday that Germany did not win the Euro 2008 because the ref did not fancy them.

Now it has emerged Michael Ballack snubbed some 35.000 German fans. Germany’s manager Oliver Bierhoff wanted for the players to hold up a banner thanking the fans for their support but Ballack refused to.

Why? Because he thinks banners are cheap and tacky.

Another one that should get over himself and get his head out of his ass.

You never diss the fans.

In case you were wondering, it was Spain that finally won the Euro 2008.

But it was Germany’s Lehmann who decided to point the finger one last time at – the ref. Of course that is always the easiest option.

Lehmann said: “What was disappointing in my opinion was the performance of the referee, who didn’t really fancy us Germans.
This is the third time I was unlucky with referees in European cup finals… He was very arrogant and in my opinion he was biased… He clearly saw a headbutt from a Spanish player towards Lukas Podolski but he didn’t book him or give him a red card.”

Now I can understand he is a bit bitter, but to say the ref did not fancy Germans. Honestly. For all of the American readers it means “to find attractive”.

That is a bit of an unfortunate choice of phrase. He should get over himself already.

We do know the Sunday night finals at the Euro 2008 – its Germany and Spain.

And while I do not doubt their competency in football (lets face it these are 2 great teams) I do wonder if Spain’s win over Russia has something to do with this.

A company in Spain has come with the most unique souvenir I have seen so far. Although unique might not be the best word to describe it.

They have produced a voodoo doll and you get a set of pins and you can voodoo away. It even comes with different flags so it can be adjusted for whatever team Spain is playing against.

The price for this latest piece of fan equipment is less then 10€ ($15).

Honestly what are they going to come up with next?

Euro is a funny old thing. Sure players give their best for their country (or so they say) but it is also a period when clubs all over Europe check out the existing and emerging talent. Some players have already been spotted and the rumor mill is working overtime who will buy who and at what cost.

Chelsea might be considered the holy grail of clubs for any football manager or football player. Rare are the few that would say no to Roman Abramovich (or his money for that matter).

But David Villa, the brilliant Spanish striker is about to do just that. Villa who is currently playing for Valencia, would prefer to stay in Spain and if Real Madrid or Barcelona would made an offer this is what he would take.
In case any of the English clubs are interested Villa would like to go Arsenal rather then Chelsea.

Knowing Abramovich when he has his heart set on someone, he will spare no cost to get them. The deal is rumored to be 65 million pounds for Villa and his fellow countryman Torres. What is a few more millions?

I do wonder is this a brilliant tactic on behalf on Villa (which would be impressive for a football player) or he genuinely dislikes Chelsea’s style of play. Me thinks it might be a brilliant tactic after all.

After a disastrous performance during the Euro 2008 France’s coach Raymond Domenech thought it was a good idea to propose to his girlfriend during a live broadcast.
Hm yes anything to draw attention from his crappy performance and the fact France lost 2:0 to Italy.

But that is not the worse of it. Domenech claimed yesterday he has made a mistake: “Yes, forgive me. It was an error in communication. I felt a moment of humanity when I should have stayed cold and professional.”

Not only he will be out of a job soon, but I’m pretty sure his girlfriend will dump his ass.

The main reason why Germany has been performing bellow standards?

Players of the German team have locked heads over their wives and girlfriends (or WAGs as we like to call them).

Michael Ballack is furious with his teammates who have opted to spend some time with their wives and girlfriends just a day after the slaughtering Germany suffered from Croatia. Ballack and Thorsten Frings have decided to forgo conjugal visits and concentrate on the football.

And it seems to have worked for the Germans, since Ballack has managed to score during the game against Austria and secured Germany’s place in the quarter finals.

But it is anyone’s guess whether or not the rest of the players will follow suit.

Oh honestly the cheek of some people. The so-called Group of Death that includes Italy, France, Romania and Netherlands has just become Group of Whiners.

With such giants as France , Italy and Netherlands it was considered Romania does not stand much of a chance – hence the name.

However after abysmal performances by French and the Italian both French manager Domenech and Italian captain Buffon fear the Dutch will lose to Romania to make sure both Italy and France are out of quarter finals (which would suit the Dutch just fine in the semi-finals). So instead of concentrating on their own teams and the game ahead of them, they wither on about the Dutch.

Yes I know it is all about the points and who will be the 2 runner ups but fact remains if Italy or France were not so crap to begin with they would not be in this position.

Vienna is a beautiful city. But on Monday the home of the Sacher torta (well sorry but I like my pastries) will be swarming with football fans.

It is estimated some 200.000 fans will descend on Vienna for the Austria – Germany match. 40.000 Germans are expected and the police will try to detain any known trouble makers at the borders. The Austrian police has so far managed to squash any signs of unruly conduct quite successfully.

But what makes this even trickier is some 28.000 Croatians and 15.000 Poles are expected in Klagenfurt for the Croatia – Poland game.

And you dont want to mess about with Austrian police. All of those who took their camper vans to the Euro and were caught sleeping in the car were fined with €500 (about $770).

And in case you really, really have to go better find that portable toilet quick – public urination is fined up to €5000 ($7700). Now thats what I call expensive potty break.

The cat is out of the bag.

The biggest shock so far in the Euro 2008 (well apart from yesterday’s Netherlands win over France) was Croatia’s win over Germany. And while many have sung praises about the players stamina, technique and Bilic’s coaching skills it might be that the reason is far simpler.

Bilic lets his players have conjugal visit by their wives and girlfriends.

Friends and friend-wannabes are banned but a visit from significant other is allowed as long as it is announced in advance and it does not interfere with players’ morning and afternoon training sessions.

This has been a matter of quite a debate as many coaches can’t decide whether it helps players stay focused or not. I’m sure many men would argue that yes it does indeed help. Then again English WAGs have caused such mayhem during the last Euro majority of them have been banned from the national squad games.

But interesting tidbit – during Euro 2006 Italian coach allowed conjugal visits and guess what? Italy won the bloody thing.

So I say if it ain’t broken…
