Top ranked tennis player Jelena Jankovic won her 3rd title in 3 weeks by beating Russia’s Vera Zvonareva 6-2, 6-4 for the Kremlin Cup on Sunday.

“I was really expecting a tough match,” Jankovic said. “I was really focused from the start of the match. I went out there aggressive and really played my game and I was really going after the shots.

“Especially the first set I played quite well. I was dominating. But then the second set my level of tennis went down a little bit and I let her come back into the match. At the end of the second set I focused a little bit and changed the match in my favor.”

Jankovic will play in the Zurich open next week then she plans to take 2 weeks off so she can rest her body and prepare for the season ending Doha Championships.

Jelena Jankovic did not make it to the Wimbledon’s quarter finals. This is the first time that none of the top 3 female competitors made it to the quarter finals.

But Jankovic did not go quietly – she is furious with the Wimbledon officials who did not allow her to have a late start as she has suffered an injury and needed time to recuperate. So against doctor’s orders she went ahead and played a match. And we know how that ended up.

Jankovic also had a go at the organizers for being placed at Court number 18 – “I was almost playing in the parking lot. I needed a helicopter to get to my court. There was no reason to put me out on Court 18… It’s not my job to look at other players but it’s not normal to have Anna Chakvetadze and Nicole Vaidisova on Court One and Venus Williams, the defending champion, on Court Two.»

Federer does not agree – “Pete Sampras played on Court Two after winning here seven times. I wouldn’t be disappointed if they put me on Court Two. I’m just happy to play here.”

What has become of Wimbledon if all everyone is talking about is fashion and what Court are they playing on?
