Joe Calzaghe retained his light heavyweight title after he won a 118-109 unanimous decision over Roy Jones Jr. at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.
“This year I just beat two legends, with Hopkins and Jones, and I came to the United States to do it,” Calzaghe said.
With their Saturday night fight just a day away, Roy Jones Jr. is busy trying to sweet talk his opponent Joe Calzaghe.
“No-one else can come close. For me Joe is the best pound for pound fighter in the world now,” Jones said.
Undefeated light heavyweight champion Joe Calzaghe plans to retire if he beats Roy Jones Jr. in their upcoming bout this Saturday night.
“I promised my mum this would be my last fight,” Calzaghe said.

The fight between light heavyweight champion Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jr. has been postponed after Calzaghe suffered an injury to his right wrist.

Middleweight Champion Kelly Pavlik (34-0, 30 KOs) scored a 3rd round technical knockout in his bout with Gary Lockett Saturday night. Pavlik had Lockett knocked down twice in the 2nd round and once in the 3rd before the fight was stopped.
“I just couldn’t see the punches coming,” Lockett said. “It wasn’t just one punch, it was the accumulation. He’s a fabulous fighter. Every time he threw punches, it felt like he was making me pay for it.”
Hopefully a fight between Pavlik and Joe Calzaghe can be made for later this year. Both are great fighters and the match-up would make for one hell of a fight.
