Unknown Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina upset Roger Federer on Monday to win the first major title of his career. Porto, a heavy underdog, defeated the #1 seeded Federer in five sets, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Roger Federer won his 35th straight U.S. Open match on Monday with a 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Devin Britton in the first round of the event.

If Federer can win the tournament he will become the first man since Bill Tilden in the 1920s to win six consecutive American Grand Slam titles.
