Michael Phelps took another world record on Saturday when he become the first person to ever finish the 100-meter butterfly in less than 50 seconds.

“I felt so good coming off the wall,” Phelps said. “My kick off the wall felt really, really good. I saw the splash out of my left eye from his lane coming over, and I saw him getting closer and closer, and I heard the crowd getting louder and louder.”

Phelps’ rival Milorad Cavic also finished the race in under 50 seconds, but he was still .13 seconds behind the champ.

“We face each other, but I don’t look that way. I look up in the crowd,” Phelps said. Still, “it’s literally like a straight showdown. It’s like boxers coming face to face for a weigh in. I think that’s kind of cool for the sport.”

Just hours after the event Phelps was seen celebrating with 2 joints and a beer.

Michael Phelps set a new world record on Thursday night at the U.S. national championships by finishing the 100-meter butterfly in 50.22 seconds.

“It really shows anything can happen if you put your mind to it,” Phelps said. “It feels good to get a best time.”

Phelps broke the previous record of 50.40 which was set by Ian Crocker at the 2005 world championships in Montreal.

“Crock had a ton more first 50 speed than I did. That’s something I’ve really been working on,” Phelps said. “I’ve always been able to come home pretty strong. I finally got the front half a little bit faster. If I can get that even faster, I’ll be in better shape.”

Phelps celebrated the record by smoking a joint.

At the recent Mediterranean Games Italian swimmer Flavia Zoccari was disqualified from the 200M finals race because her swimsuit ripped open, exposing her ass to the entire audience.

Earlier in the day on Thursday Michael Phelps learned Kellogg’s was dropping their endorsement deal after he was seen hitting a bong in this picture. Later in the day Phelps continued to get bad news after USA Swimming’s governing body announced they’re suspending him for 3 months.

“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” USA Swimming said in a statement.

Don’t worry about it Michael, you’re still a millionaire. Go ahead, roll another joint and kill some more brain cells. You’re just a swimmer — nobody expects you be smart anyways.

Michael Phelps has won his 7th gold medal after finishing first place in the 100-meter butterfly by just 0.01 seconds.

“I was starting to hurt a little bit with probably the last 10 meters,” Phelps said. That was my last individual race, so I was just trying to finish as strong as I could.”

Phelps amazing performance earned high praise from swimming legend Mark Spitz.

“It goes to show you that not only is this guy the greatest swimmer of all time and the greatest Olympian of all time,” Spitz said. “He’s maybe the greatest athlete of all time. He’s the greatest racer who ever walked the planet.”

Tomorrow Phelps participates in the 4×100 medley relay and if the Americans win, Phelps will own the record for the most golds ever won in a single olympics.

Michael Phelps has won his 6th gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics after breaking his own world record in the 200-meter individual medley with the time of 1 minute, 54.23 seconds.

Like every true competitor, he’s already forgotten about this latest victory and he’s focused on the next event.

“It’s never a relief,” Phelps said. “Tomorrow is going to be a tough race. For me to be a player in that race, I have to be closer at the 50. If I’m not, then it will be tough. I was over a body length behind at the 50 in the prelims and came up a bit short, so I have to be there.”

American swimmer Michael Phelps has won 2 more gold medals at the 2008 Olympics today. First he won the 200-meter butterfly in 1:52.03, winning the gold and breaking his own world record. Then he gave the United States a huge lead in the 4×200 freestyle relay, winning his 11th career olympic gold and becoming the winningest olympic athlete ever.

“I’m almost at a loss for words,” Phelps said. “Growing up I always wanted to be an Olympian. Now to be the most decorated Olympian of all time, it just sounds weird saying. It started setting in a little bit after the butterfly. I was just trying to focus on my next race, but I just kept thinking, `Wow, greatest Olympian of all time.’ It’s a pretty cool title. I’m definitely honored.”

Italy’s Federica Pellegrini has won the gold medal for the 200-meter freestyle the the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

She won in 1 minute, 54.82 seconds. Sara Isakovic of Slovenia won the Silver with the time of 1:54.97 and Pang Jiaying time of 1:55.05 was good enough to win the bronze for China.

American Katie Hoff finished 4th with the time 1:55.7.
