Tom Izzo has decided to continue being the head coach of the Michigan State Spartans and no longer flirt with the idea of going to the NBA and becoming the coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“Instead of coaching them in the NBA, I’m going to coach them in the NCAA,” Izzo said “I knew at the beginning that whatever decision I made would be a decision for life.
“I am going to be a lifer. This is what I’m going to be, and I’m damn proud of it.”
Don’t be fooled, Izzo wanted to go to the NBA and coach LeBron James, but the King refused to talk to Izzo and make a commitment to stay with the Cavs.
Tom Izzo will become a coach in the NBA someday. Bank on it.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly offered their head coaching to to Michigan State’s Tom Izzo to replace coach Mike Brown who they just fired a few weeks ago.
Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis immediately denied the report once it became public.
“There is not a contract offer on the table,” Hollis said in a telephone interview with the AP. “Last week, there was talk that Chicago and New Jersey were interested. If I was anywhere but at Michigan State, I would be interested in Tom, too, because he’s the best coach in college basketball.”
Tom Izzo would be a fool to leave Michigan State unless LeBron James is officially returning to the team. I would be downright shocked if he went to the NBA if he wasn’t guaranteed to have a chance at coaching one of the top 5 players in the league.
