Mike Shanahan has had a passionate hate for Albert Haynesworth ever since becoming the Washington Redskins’ head coach and on Tuesday he suspended the two-time All-Pro defensive lineman without pay for the rest of the season.
“Despite the club’s numerous attempts to persuade Albert Haynesworth to abide by the terms of his contract, he has repeatedly refused to cooperate with our coaching staff in a variety of ways over an extended period of time,” Shanahan said in statement released by the team. “Among other things, he has consistently indicated to our defensive coaches that he refuses to play in our base defense or on first-down or second-down nickel situations. He has also refused to follow the instructions of our coaches both during weekly practices and during actual games as well.
“Yesterday, when Albert was at Redskin Park, he told our general manager Bruce Allen that he [Haynesworth] would no longer speak with me. Although suspending any player is not a decision that a head coach enters into lightly, I believe the situation has reached the point where the club clearly has no alternative.”
Haynesworth’s talent has never been in question, but his desire for the game of football is seriously lacking. He has all the money any man could ever ask for. Now it’s time for him to get off his ass and play football.
Frankly, I don’t give a rats ass if he doesn’t like his teammates or any of his coaches. They’re not paying him to make friends, they’re paying him to play football.
Unfortunately for Redskins’ fans, Haynesworth thought he could get paid for sitting on his fat lazy ass eating twinkies all day.
He should have been suspended months ago.
If he hadn’t already, Michael Vick officially shut up all of his doubters on Monday night when he went crazy on the Washington Redskins and scored 6 touchdowns by himself in the Eagles 59-28 victory.
”I feel like I’m playing the best football only because of the coaches I have, the guys I’m playing with,” Vick said. ”I have a great group of guys around me, so it complements me.”
It’s nice of Vick to pretend like he’s a classy guy, but let’s face it this was a one-man show on Monday night. He threw for 333 yards, 4 touchdowns and no interceptions. In addition, he ran for 80 yards and 2 more touchdowns.
Even more impressive every one of his passing touchdowns was to a difference receiver. He didn’t lock on to just one guy. Instead, he went through his reads and spread the ball around to the open man.
It was the performance of a lifetime.
Donovan McNabb had no problems beating his former team on Sunday when the Washington Redskins traveled to Philadelphia to beat the Eagles. Sure, Michael Vick missed most of the game after getting knocked out of the action in the first quarter with a rib injury.
“The relief I got was that this is over, that the whole hoopla and coming back to Philadelphia is over,” McNabb said after the game.
Once Vick was taken out the game was basically over. Kevin Kolb played like crap and is obviously nowhere near ready to lead an NFL team. He may still have a future as the starter in Philly, but not for a year of two.
No word yet on how much time Vick will miss, but he was in pain.
“He just said he was in some pain and explained the injury just a little bit,” Kolb said. “He just said he was sore.”
For the Eagles sake, Vick better get back as soon as possible.
Mike Shanahan has done everything to show the world how much he passionately hates Albert Haynesworth. The head coach has even tried to publicly embarrass the defensive tackle on several occasions, but today the coach must of finally had enough. It sounds like the Redskins are desperately trying to find a trade partner to get rid of him.
And surprise surprise, one of his possible trade suitors happens to be his former team, the Tennessee Titans.
“If they’re willing to look into the possibility of dealing him, of course we’ll listen to them. We listen to those types of things almost every day,” Titans Coach Jeff Fisher said.
“This just happens to be a big story because of the circumstances and the situation that arose with the offseason payment and then of course with all the drama associated with the offseason conditioning and the conditioning test and everything. Our focus right now is on the Raiders.”
As much as Shanahan so obviously hates Albert, I’d be surprised if they didn’t trade him away before week four.
Albert Haynesworth has failed a conditioning test put together by new head coach Mike Shanahan which means Albert will not be allowed to practice with his team until he gets his fat ass into shape.
“The bottom line,” Shanahan said, “is we’re going to get him in shape.”
As started in a previous post, this conditioning test really had nothing to do with Haynesworth being in shape. It was just meant to be a wake-up call. Now is his chance to prove his dedication to the Redskins by getting in shape and doing what he’s told. I have my doubts that he’ll actually do it, but we’ll see.
Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is ordering Albert Haynesworth to pass a conditioning test before he is allowed to join the team and practice.
“I’m expecting him to be in great shape,” Shanahan said. “And if he’s not in great shape, then we’re going to do what we need to do to get him in shape.
“Once he gets to that point, hopefully he’ll fit into our system and do the things we want him to do. Because, if he does, he can be an excellent football player for us. If not, we’re going to be very good anyhow.”
More than likely this is Shanahan’s way of trying to publicly embarrass Haynesworth in an attempt to get him to refocus his life on football. Will it work? Who knows, but Mike Shanahan is a proven coach in the NFL and he should know what he’s doing when it comes to dealing with overpaid babies like Albert.
When Albert Haynesworth isn’t stomping on the heads of his opponents he’s usually throwing a fit and begging for more money. This time around his teammates are tired of his whiny act and they are calling him out.
“Albert made a very selfish decision,” veteran linebacker London Fletcher said. “When you decide to play a team sport, you have to look at it and think about everybody involved in the situation. This is not golf, tennis, things like that, where it’s an all-about-you sport. What he’s decided to do is make a decision based on all-about-him. It’s no different than his attitude and approach to last year’s defense, about wanting everything to revolve around him and him making plays. And if it didn’t benefit him, he wasn’t really willing to do it.”
That’s some harsh words from a very respected veteran linebacker. Haynesworth was an idiot to ever holdout from the Redskins, but now I can’t blame him for not reporting to camp. His teammates obviously hate his guts and would make his life a living hell if he ever shows up.
Let that be a lesson learned Albert!
For the life of me I can’t figure out why any quarterback any established quarterback in the National Football League would want to play with Terrell Owens, especially somebody who has already dealt with his cancer. But multiple sources on Tuesday reported that new Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb is urging team officials to sign his former Eagles teammate.
Now can anyone explain to me why McNabb would want to play with a guy who once did everything he possible could to destroy his reputation? I understand that the ‘Skins could use an elite receiver like Owens, but keep in mind that T.O. is not nearly as good as he was a few years ago when he played in Philly. It’s also important to realize that a Leopard can’t change it’s spots. Owens has not matured and will still be a locker room cancer regardless of where he goes.
I guess when you spend a few years with Jason Campbell as your starting quarterback you’ll pretty much fall in love with any veteran that walks into the building. As soon as Donovan McNabb introduced himself to his new Washington Redskins teammates they immediately fell in love and wanted to snuggle with him all day long.
“Donovan’s outstanding, it feels like he’s been here for a couple years,” Chris Cooley told the media. “Instantly, he’s a leader. He knows what it takes to have a team together. He’s talking to all the guys, fits in extremely well. I don’t think anyone was worried about his ability to come be the quarterback of this team.”
I feel bad for Mr. Campbell. Everyone in Washington hates him and now that McNabb is in town they have forgotten all about him. It’s sad because in reality he’s a better quarterback than Matt Leinart and Brady Quinn will ever be. Unfortunately he may never get another chance to start in the National Football League
Everyone knew it was just a matter of time before the Philadelphia Eagles traded Donovan McNabb and on Easter Sunday they finally came to an agreement that sent him to the Washington Redskins for the 37th overall in this month’s NFL draft and either a 3rd or 4th round pick next year.
“I’m really excited about my future with the Washington Redskins,” McNabb said in a statement. “I’m eager to work with Coach [Mike] Shanahan. He’s been a very successful coach with a couple of Super Bowl victories on his resume. While it has been my goal to win a Super Bowl in Philadelphia, we came up short. I enjoyed my 11 years, and know we shared a lot more good times than bad.”
Redskins’ fans were overjoyed on Sunday when they heard the news, but nobody was more exciting that Shanahan.
“Donovan is an accomplished quarterback who has been a proven winner in the National Football League,” Shanahan said in a statement released by the team. “I have long admired his competitiveness and feel he will be an outstanding addition to the Redskins and our community. He knows our division and the roadmap to success in the NFC East.”
Without McNabb, the Redskins would have had a hard time going 5-11 in this upcoming season. With him they’ll have a great shot at reaching the playoffs.
