The headline is not a misprint! The Detriot Lions did actually finally win a football game. They managed to beat the Washington Redskins, 19-14, on Sunday afternoon, ending their 19-game losing streak.

“We not only got the monkey off our back, we got King Kong off our back,” said Lions owner William Clay Ford. “I’m hoping that this gets us over that hump and gives us a winning attitude.”

Before Sunday, the Lions hadn’t won a game since 2007!

“We went a whole season without feeling like this [victory], so you have to take it in and enjoy,” Lions center Dominic Raiola said.

Congratulations Detroit!!! Now sit back and watch the Cleveland Browns as they try to duplicate your winless 2008 season.

The Washington Redskins selected Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon in the 3rd round of the NFL supplemental draft on Thursday.

By drafting Jarmon the Redskins are forced to give up their 3rd round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

Jarmon was was declared ineligible for his senior season at Kentucky after he tested positive for a banned substance.

“There’s been a lot of ups and downs. … I was real disappointed at the time, when the ruling came out. That was definitely one of the low points, if not the lowest point, of my life so far,” Jarmon said. “But I started to get over it.”

A team like the New England Patriots or the Indianapolis Colts could have gotten away with taking a risky player like Jarmon, but the Redskins arn’t good enough to be wasting draft picks on players like this.

Daniel Snyder = stupid owner.

Just a year after trading a 2nd and 6th round draft picks for defensive end Jason Taylor the Washington Redskins have released the former defensive player of the year due to his lack of workout commitment.

“He wanted to spend the offseason with his family,” Taylor’s agent, Gary Wichard said. “He just kind of chose family over going up there.”

The Redskins wanted Taylor to attend atleast 75% of their offseason workouts; when he didn’t, the ‘Skins didn’t hesitate to cut him.

“Jason Taylor was a real professional during his time with the Redskins,” Redskins coach Jim Zorn said. “He played hurt, but still gave his best effort to be prepared and play hard every week. We wish him and his family the very best.”

If Taylor still wants to play football he won’t have a hard time finding a team. But his commitment to football is very questionable right now.

Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Slingin’ Sammy Baugh died Wednesday night at the age of 94.

“There’s nobody any better than Sam Baugh was in pro football,” Don Maynard said in a 2002 interview. “When I see somebody picking the greatest player around, to me, if they didn’t go both ways, they don’t really deserve to be nominated. I always ask, ‘Well, how’d he do on defense? How was his punting?’”

During the last few years Baugh has had many health issues, he battled Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and he had bad kidneys, low blood pressure and double pneumonia.

He played with the Redskins from 1937 to 1952 and led them to two championships.

“Sammy Baugh embodied all we aspire to at the Washington Redskins,” Redskins owner Dan Snyder said. “He was a competitor in everything he did and a winner. He was one of the greatest to ever play the game of football, and one of the greatest the Redskins ever had. My thoughts and prayers are with his family tonight.”

People who had the pleasure of watching Baugh play say he was one of the best of all-time.

“He was amazing, just tremendously accurate,” Eddie LeBaron, who took over for Baugh in his last season, said. “He could always find a way to throw it off balance. I’ve seen him throw the ball overarm, sidearm and underarm and complete them.”

Rest in peace.

Tony Romo and his 9 fingers returned to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 14-10 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.

“We had to have this one,” Romo said.

“It was the most important game we’ve played all year. I thought it was a show-me game and I told the guys that we have to go out and prove ourselves.”

The Cowboys knew if they wanted any chance at making the playoffs as a wildcard team, they would have to win this game.

The win gives them a season split with the Redskins in the tuff NFC East division and a half game lead over the Eagles. The Giants are way ahead of everyone else in the East with a 9-1 overall record.

If Romo can stay healthy the Cowboys still have a chance at making some playoff noise but there is very little room for error.

Former NFL linebacker LaVar Arrington is attacking his former Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs for leaving the NFL to re-focus his attention on his NASCAR team.

“I called Joe Gibbs a coward for leaving,” Arrington said in a Washington Times interview.

“You came in, you made some money for your NASCAR team. No one else is going to say that. I’m sure more people thought I was a [jerk] for saying that. Joe wouldn’t call me because he knows. There are a lot of people who know the truth about what went down with me and the Redskins.”

And as if that wasn’t saying enough, Arrington decided to attack his former owner Dan Snyder as well.

“I think Dan Snyder is scared to death of me,” Arrington said. “He won’t look at me. I tried to shake his hand at [a] luncheon. He shook my hand and was like, ‘How you doing, LaVar?’ and kept moving. I’m probably the only person that’s ever stood up to him and never backed down.”

So I’m gussing you hate the team Redskins, right LaVar? …Wrong.

“I root for the Redskins because how I feel about the fans outweighs how the organization treated me. I always take pleasure in taking jabs at Dan because people like him need that. There’s got to be a person out there who’s not afraid to do it.”

Sounds like LaVar is dying to play some football again so he’s crying out for attention.

Here’s some advice, if you want back into the league…don’t attack one of the best coaches the NFL has ever seen.

Recently released cornerback DeAngelo Hall has been signed by the Washington Redskins to a one year deal worth $492,000.

“He’s excited to be coming home, he’s a Virginia Tech guy,” agent Joe Segal told The Associated Press.

Hall will join a packed Redskins secondary that already includes Carlos Rogers, Shawn Springs and Fred Smoot.

When all 4 corners are heathy, Hall won’t see much playing time. He’s always been very overrated and these days he’s not even a top 20 corner in the league.
