Chargers give Philip Rivers new 6-year deal

The San Diego Chargers and quarterback Philip Rivers have agreed to a 6-year, $92 million contract extension on Monday. The deal includes $38-39 million in guaranteed money.
“This is a great day for the Chargers and Chargers fans,” Chargers president Dean Spanos said when the deal became public. “Philip has proven he has all of the necessary qualities to be a successful quarterback in the NFL. He’s a proven winner and an unquestioned leader for this football team.”
Rivers, 27, sat behind Drew Brees for his first two seasons in the NFL, and the Chargers were scrutinized heavily for letting Brees leave in favor of Rivers.
While we still believe Brees is the better quarterback, they are both great and Rivers is still improving every year.
