Derek Jeter Ties Lou Gehrig on Yankees’ Hits List

Derek Jeter tied legend Lou Gehrig atop the Yankees’ all-time hit list with a 7th-inning single Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Rays.
“He [Gehrig] is one of the classiest people to ever play this game,” Jeter said during a postgame interview. “It’s just kind of mind-boggling to have my name next to his.”
Gehrig has held the top spot (2,721 hits) for over 70-years. Now, it’s only a matter of time before Jeter passes that mark.
“I’m very happy for him,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said. “He carries himself in a manner that’s worthy of passing Gehrig.”
