Former Heavyweight chamption Evander Holyfield has accepted a fight with Nikolai Valuev for his WBA heavyweight world title.

Holyfield will turn 46-years old on October 19th and if he can upset Valuev he’ll become the oldest heavyweight champion in history.

“They said I was too old when I was 34 and was getting ready to fight Mike Tyson for the first time,” said Holyfield. “There’s nothing new with what people say. I have a desire and I am the one who got to train and I am willing to make the sacrifices necessary to be the best. Just imagine a 46-year-old guy being heavyweight champ of the world?”

I can easily imagine a 46-year-old winning the heavyweight belt, especially against a joke like Valuev, but Holyfield has lost all of his hand speed and his reflexes are completely gone. And he was never really a one punch knockout artist to begin with.

Holyfield is one of those guys who won’t know when to stop until he suffers a serious injury in the ring. This fight could get ugly.
