Joe Calzaghe wins unanimous decision over Roy Jones Jr.
Joe Calzaghe retained his light heavyweight title after he won a 118-109 unanimous decision over Roy Jones Jr. at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.
“This year I just beat two legends, with Hopkins and Jones, and I came to the United States to do it,” Calzaghe said.
“I took the risk. They didn’t come to me. I took the risk.”
Roy Jones Jr. is way past his prime an harldy anybody actually thought he could win but he did stun the entire audience when he knocked Calzaghe down in the first round.
“Yeah, it was a good shot,” Calzaghe said, “but I came back stronger.”
A few years ago Jones Jr. was considered by some to be one of the best pound for pound fighters ever. Now at 36-years old Jones needs to hand ‘em up and go back to being a ringside commentator.
