Juan Manuel Marquez won vacant lightweight belts and the IBO lightweight title on Saturday night when he knocked out Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz in the 9th round during the main event at the Toyota Center in Houston.

“I feel extremely happy because I beat the best,” Marquez said. “I boxed him really well but he is really strong. He hurt me with one body shot but we came to work and we came to box. He threw a lot of punches but I knew how to contain him. The fight was even and then I started avoiding his punches and I hurt him in the body. I knew in the fourth round things were changing.”

Marquez hopes the victory wil earn him a rematch against the pound for pound champ Manny Pacquiao. When the two faces each other in March of 2008 the fight was ruled a split decision in Pacquiao’s favor but many fans still believe Marquez won the fight.

Marquez however knows he isn’t in Pacquiao’s immediate future so he called out Floyd Mayweather Jr. instead.

“If Floyd Mayweather is the best, then I want to fight the best,” Marquez said. “I want to move up. He is the best and I want him.”

Mayweather would defeat Marquez with ease; there is no reason for that fight to ever happen.
