Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini has refused to name a starting quarterback for the upcoming 2009 season. Instead, Mangini will let Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson battle it out until one proves he’s better than the other.

“I don’t have a projected starter at this point,” Mangini said. “What we’re going to do is we’ll have an open competition where they’ll both get a chance to establish that they’ll be the starter.”

Quinn has been the fan favorite but Anderson has already proved he can be a successful starter in the league.

“I’m excited about both of them,” Mangini continued to say. “I sat down with both of them, been able to spend some time with them. I like both guys. I like a lot of the things that I’ve learned about them in terms of through the conversations and also things that I’ve seen on tape.”

Since Quinn is clearly the fan favorite, he will help the team sell tickets; that’s why I have to believe he’ll be named their starter by August.
