Former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito and his trainer Javier Capetillo have received a 1-year ban from the California State Athletic Commission for putting a plaster-like substance on his hand wraps before his January 24th fight against Shane Mosley.

“The conduct of both Mr. Margarito and Mr. Capetillo was unacceptable and threatened the health and safety of another licensee,” Carrie Lopez, the director of the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs said. “Today’s action shows that both the Department of Consumer Affairs and the California State Athletic Commission take the issue of boxer safety very seriously, and will move quickly when a licensee’s actions threaten the safety of others.”

The ban will keep Margarito from fighting in the United States for atleast 1-year but that won’t stop him from going back to Mexico and continuing his boxing career over there.

“We’ll figure out a fight for him in Mexico,” Margarito’s promoter Bob Arum said. “It will be on one of our pay-per-view shows this summer. I think we’d have the opportunity to do 200,000 or 300,000 buys.”

After being embarrassed in the ring by Shane Mosley, American boxing fans really don’t care to see this chump fight again anyways. Good riddance Antonio!
