More dog problems in Beijing

China really does have a problem with dogs.
Anyone who has a dog that is taller then 1.1 feet cannot register it with Chinese authorities and if the dog is found by the dog catchers they end up killed.
One dog owner stated: “I know it’s pet owners’ responsibility to register their dogs, but current regulation doesn’t allow me to do so… For big dogs, being captured by the police almost always leads to a dead end.”
The law dates back to the Mao Zedong era when very small number of people had dogs and those who did were considered bourgeois.
Things have gotten quiet just before the Olympics, but many dog owners fear what will happen once the Olympics are over.
In 2006 dog owners organized protest against the raids that resulted in deaths of tens of thousands of dogs.
