The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in Game 5 of the World Series to clinch their first title since 1980.
“I always thought we’d win the World Series,” manager Charlie Manuel as he held onto the championship trophy.
“I knew we could beat anybody in our league.
Not even mother nature herself could keep the championship away from the Phillies.
“It was a crazy way to win it with a suspended game, but we did and it’s over,” 45-year-old Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer said. “It has been a long wait, but it’s worth it.”
NLCS MVP Cole Hamels was also named the World Series MVP.
“This is something that you have to live for,” Hamels said. “Going out there, I knew I had a job to do. I had the support of these fans, I had my teammates behind me and all I had to really do was just go throw a baseball as well I knew how.”
“Definitely going to have to enjoy this moment because there’s a lot of times you don’t have everything go your way, To come away with a World Series ring is more important to me than an MVP.”
The Rays proved a lot this year and they’ll be right back in the running next season but they were obviously no match for the Phillies in this series.
After the game Phillies fans were so happy and drunk, they felt like dancing!
Congratulations Phillies!
