The Philadelphia Phillies won the NL championship series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night 3-2.
“First game is definitely important,” Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. “But you still have to win four games.”
Pat Burrell and Chase Utley homered in the sixth inning against a tired Derek Lowe to help Philadelphia get the victory.
“They have been pitching us tough, trying to not let us do too much damage,” Utley said. “That’s the game plan for a lot of teams, but we have eight guys, sometimes nine, that can swing the bats.”
Game 2 on Friday will feature Phillies right hander Brett Myers against Dodgers right handed pitcher Chad Billingsley.
