Filly Rachel Alexandra is making her case as the best Mare/Filly to ever live after she made history again on Saturday by becoming the first female horse to win the Woodward Stakes.

“The last 40 yards I was a little worried, but she just kept digging in,” Jockey Calvin Borel said.

As you can tell from the race video posted above, it was a very close race. She exploded out of the gate, which left her trainer wondering if she’d have enough left in the tank to close the deal.

“She just ran a tremendous race, very proud of her,” Rachel’s trainer, Steve Asmussen, said. “Obviously, I was very concerned with how fast she went early, but very glad she dug in and won.”
