The NBA suspended Orlando Magic forward Rashard Lewis for 10 games on Thursday after he tested positive for a banned substance which elevated his testosterone level.

“First and foremost I take full responsibility for the situation and accept the corresponding penalty,” Lewis said in a statement after the suspension became public. “I apologize to Magic fans, my teammates and this organization for not doing the research that should come with good judgment.”

Lewis will be suspended without pay for the first 10 games of the 2009-10 regular season. He will be docked a total of $1.6 million off of his salary of $18 million.

Rashard is only the 6th NBA player to test positive for performance-enhancing drugs since 1999.

In other words, he was only the 6th player dumb enough to get caught.
