After winning the Australia Open, Serna Williams is now the richest female Athlete to ever live.

“I’m thrilled with the news! I remember earning my first check of $240 at Québec City in 1995 and while I knew that I could have a great career in tennis, I could not have imagined or dreamed of all of this,” Williams said.

Female golf star Annika Sorenstam held the title previously with a total career winnings of $22,573,192; Serena has now earned a total of $22,725,475 so far in her career.

“It’s amazing how much women’s tennis has grown since I joined the Tour 14 years ago,” Serena said. “I am very proud to have reached this milestone for me, my family and all women athletes.”

Unless Sorenstam makes a comeback, Serena is going to hold this title for quite some time.
