Serena Williams has defeated Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 7-5 to win the 3rd U.S. Open of her career.

“I’ve been working so hard this year and it’s finally paid off,” Serena said after the match.

With the great victory and after all of her great performances in the tournaments Serena Williams has regained the #1 ranking in womens tennis replacing Ana Ivanovic who suffered a shocking early loss in the tournament.

Serena last held the number 1 ranking in 2003.
