Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson finally got her gold medal after giving the performance of her lifetime on the balance beam.

“I finished off the Olympic Games with, to me, the most perfect ending ever,” Johnson said. “To finally get the gold medal … on my very last routine meant the world to me.”

Before the Olympics the 16-year old Des Moines, Iowa was considered the best gymnast in the world and was favored to win multiple golds at the olympic games. Her trip to Beijing would have been a huge disappointment without winning a single gold.
