Stanford beats Iowa State 74-53

Iowa State took a 74-53 beating from Jayne Appel and the Stanford Cardinals on Monday night. Appel had the night of her life with 46 points, that’s the 3rd most ever scored in a NCAA tournament.
“I came into the gym with the mind-set that I wasn’t going to leave without the net,” Appel said. “We weren’t going to leave here without cutting down those nets. It just wasn’t an option.”
When Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer saw Iowa State cover Appel man-on-man, she knew the junior center was going to have one hell of a night.
“Tara told me she was pretty sure they weren’t going to double me, so we knew immediately that we were going to go inside,” Appel said. “That was our game plan from the very beginning, and it worked for us.”
Stupid gameplan by the Cyclones. They deserved to lose.
