The Texas Tech Red Raiders have signed head football coachMike Leach to a 5-year contract extension worth $12.7 million.

“Me and my family are thrilled to death that we’re going to be in Lubbock for another five years,” Leach said at a news conference. “I appreciate Chancellor Hance and Gerald [Myers'] efforts to allow us to stay here and the opportunity to be here to coach the Red Raiders for many years to come.”

Since being named Texas Tech’s head coach Leach has an outstanding record of 76-39 and he’s taken the Red Raiders to a bowl game each year he’s been in Lubbock.

I can’t believe it has taken them this long to extend his contract. Without Leach, Texas Tech is no better than Louisiana Monroe Warhawks.
