Tom Watson loses British Open in playoff

The 59-year old Tom Watson blew his chances at becoming golf’s oldest major champion ever when he missed an easy 8-foot putt on the 18th hole which forced a 4-hole playoff with Stewart Cink. During the playoff, Watson was clearly exhausted and never came close to contending with Cink.
“I made a lousy putt,” Watson said. “Then in the playoff, it was bad shot after another.”
Despite the loss, Watson had a hell of time competing with all the youngsters.
“It was fun to be in the mix again, having kids who are my kids’ age saying, ‘What are you doing out here?’ It was nice showing them you can still play,” Watson said. “I’m sure I’ll take some good things from it. But it’s still a disappointment.”
Watson almost pulled off an unbelievable achievement, but in the end his age got the best of him.
