U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Beats Brazil For Gold
The United States women’s soccer team won the olympic gold medal after winning a tight game against Brazil 1-0.
“Brazil played a great match, but we were able to improve and get stronger as the minutes went by,” said U.S. coach Pia Sundhage. “I told my players that they should believe in their own ability and in themselves, that they should hold onto the ball in midfield and find the right tempo. They did just that, and here we are.”
As expected, Sundhage was very emotional after the win.
“When I was 6 years old, I thought I was the only girl in the whole world who played soccer. I wasn’t allowed to play because I was a girl,” U.S. coach Pia Sundhage said. “Back then, I could never imagine to be a professional player or a professional coach. Now I’m sitting with a great player, Christie Rampone, and looking at her gold medal. I am so proud.”
