The Virginia Tech Hokies beat the Cincinnati Bearcats 20-7 in the Orange Bowl on Thursday night becoming the first ACC team to win a BCS bowl game since 1999.

Coming into the game the 19th ranked Hokies were considered the underdogs but they proved they were much better than the 12th ranked Bearcats.

“All year, all year, all year we’ve been the underdogs,” said Hokies’ cornerback Victor ‘Macho’ Harris. “All year. We had to scratch and claw our way to a victory. We had to scratch our way up to a victory. It says a lot about the character on our team.”

Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer was proud of his teams effort.

“We don’t always play well but we always play hard,” Beamer said. “That’s what we did tonight. We did a good job mixing it up. Overall, I’m really proud of this football team. We hung in there.”

Hopefully next years Orange Bowl will feature a more competitive matchup with a lot more excitement.
